To put it bluntly, it hasn’t been a great month for weather here in London. The occasional nice day, but generally it’s been cool, showery and quite drab. At the start of May, I was coughing and spluttering after a cricket umpiring stint in a force 9 gale and freezing temperatures.
It was too much to expect it to be glorious on the scale of 2018, but I want it to be a little warmer and drier and get rid of this drabness. Take the other day for example. I was scoring a game of cricket out in Hertfordshire and the evening was decidedly chilly. Just want a nice burst of sun, warmth and not sheltering from the rain, the cold and the general grot that has characterised the weather the last month. Hope my prayers will be answered.
Scoring action tomorrow but that’s it for the weekend. Not that I mind. The mix of scoring and umpiring is helping me out of this tale of grimness in 2019. I’ve never been more grateful for cricket to help me than this year and I’ve been heartened by lots of positive comments and encouragement from people. I shall try and see it through till September and to enjoy the summer, if and when it arrives!
