Umpiring today. Boy was it cold. 25 degrees and lovely last weekend, 9 degrees with a screaming north westerly gale blowing into my face all afternoon.
Very pleasant game. I had to make a few decisions today and overall, the umpiring performance was a lot better. Concentrated better and picked up the sounds and the nuances a lot better today, so I’m quite satisfied.
The host club gave me a cup of tea after the match finished and though I usually have a glass of something cold after a game, the tea was very welcome. Good day, two nice teams and it was good to actually feel as though I belong on the field once again.
Just pleased that things are starting to get a little better personally after a horrible year so far. Being involved with cricket and being involved with so many nice people is a reason that the cricket bug that bit me in 1980 hasn’t gone away.
