Last night I went to a nice evening out ten pin bowling with some colleagues at SANE, the mental health charity I volunteer at. It was a specially arranged evening for a colleague who is leaving us and starting a new job on Monday.
I haven’t been ten pin bowling for a while, and it showed. My only consistency was my inconsistency. A no score was followed by a strike. And no, that wasn’t caused by the three gin and tonics that were being consumed. My aim was awry.
In fact, it was a whole lot of fun. In the second game of two, our team captain decided to put the side barriers up, which certainly helped him and a few other members of our team. This didn’t go down too well with the opposition…..but as I say, all in good fun.
I managed to win an individual prize of a table top pool table! Hours of endless fun ahead. My aim will still be all over the place. I can play better at ten pin bowling, but my rustiness showed through.
Some of us were starving, so we adjourned to a local Turkish restaurant where the food was excellent. A good choice by a member of our quartet. It certainly satisfied my pangs of hunger. All in all, it was a thoroughly good evening and the team spirit and togetherness which embodies SANE was clearly evident.
This morning, I’m a bit bleary eyed and sluggish, but I have a few loose ends to tie up before I get prepared for the big adventure on Wednesday. I’m really acting like a kid at Christmas. It will be a new destination and I just can’t wait to arrive in Porto.
That’s all folks….
