Peer Support day today, and I was helping to run it. I haven’t been for a couple of weeks, for various reasons, so it was a chance to catch up and see what’s been going on.
I didn’t have the best of night’s sleep and there was a lack of enthusiasm this morning. I virtually dragged myself to the office to perform my duties. And that’s not good. I should be more upbeat and mentally aware. But I wasn’t.
As it happened, we had to cancel the group as out of the four people that attended, three were facilitators. We sat around chatting and then called a couple of the managers in to discuss ways of improving this Thursday group, which seems to have hit a speed bump.
We won’t know the reasons for the small attendance today. The weather is good, but we don’t know about the mental health of the regular attendees. So it’s very disappointing to have to cancel through lack of interest. It needs freshening up and hopefully our chat today will help to kick start a process that will make the group livelier and better suited to need. It really has stagnated and that different perspective from the management has given us food for thought.
After I finished, I had to meet a gentleman who wanted his cricket umpiring DBS checked. For your information, DBS is a national process where people who come into contact with people under the age of 16 have to be police checked to confirm all is above board. The document check was completed without any issues and the gentleman I met was very friendly and helpful. As he lives in the local area, I hope to invite him along to the local umpires classes in the winter. As he’s qualified, he can sit at the back with the old reprobates!
I felt a lot better mentally after that and the enthusiasm has returned. A minor blip and we go again tomorrow.
