Winter draws on…

This is where I’ve been today. Essex County Cricket Club in Chelmsford for a meeting. As you can see, another blast of winter has blanketed the playing area with yet more snow. The last two days have been thoroughly unpleasant and miserable weather wise, and though I don’t mind the cold weather, I think most of us have had enough now.

Anyways, this meeting was just the tonic I needed after what was a dreadful day yesterday. I felt really low, really down and lacking any kind of inspiration or motivation. I went to bed very early and as it happened, slept fairly well so I didn’t feel too bad when I woke at 7.30 this morning.

What was good about today was the fact that I knew most of my umpiring colleagues there, and some of them I’ve managed to form close allegiances with. We had a real good session today, a real laugh and the fact I was with like minds and enjoying the banter were plus points. A total contrast to yesterday. It just hasn’t been a good year for the most part and despite some occasional good moments, I just want to feel ok on most days of the week, not once or twice.

It was back home to more snow. Just want all this to change and I can put my scarf, woolly hat, thick coat and gloves away for another eight months. Mother Nature is always a cruel mistress, and at times recently, it has been very cruel.

Off now to warm up with a cup of tea, so see you later.
