Evening. Well it was Umpire training night and the last one of what has seemed a long winter season. It’s been a season of change and we’ve had to adapt to deliver the new courses and keep everyone happy. I, along with all the other tutors, have done that.
There was much hilarity tonight including a classic from my erstwhile colleague who mixed up cricketer Marlon Samuels with Marlon Brando. Cue comment from me that “I didn’t realise the mafia played cricket!”. The after session drink was punctuated by more ribald banter and everyone seemed in good spirits.
Had a few bits of admin to do myself. I’m now a DBS (Disclosure Barring System) checker for the local association and had a couple of bits of identification to check before okaying the candidates application. The new system does have it’s flaws but the speed of the process is much better now.
And we all got a round of applause at the end of the course and some warm handshakes from a lot of the attendees. It’s nice appreciation of a job well done and we have a very good tutor team there with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I didn’t do any tutoring tonight as I was still feeling a touch weary from my travels today but enjoyed the evening, despite the best efforts of the technology in trying to go wrong.
It’s now up to the new candidates to put that knowledge into practice on the cricket pitch this coming outdoor season. It’ll soon be here, but the weather is still reminding us we are yet to escape the grip of winter.
All in all, very tired but happy with the way it’s all gone this winter. Hard work pays off in the end.
