And don’t worry, I’m not about to belt out a Beatles classic from yesteryear. It’s very apt after this evening at Umpire training.
Mostly it seemed to go well, but the producers of one of the PowerPoints went overboard with an example of a particular scenario. I was getting slowly confused, which isn’t difficult I grant you, and the candidates were equally as befuddled. A totally unnecessary slide that just made everything as clear as mud.
And then, to make things a lot easier, there were better examples which the group did understand, as well as the hot and bothered tutor. That got me out of the big hole that had been dug for me. Also, one of my senior umpiring mates helped me out with a couple of minor points.
You know what I’m like! I only focus on what went wrong, rather than what went well. Lack of self esteem and confidence. But overall, apart from that convoluted example, the evening went well, and I was glad that the wintry weather behaved itself. It can do what the hell it likes for the next 7 days as long as we get the final two weeks done.
If you need anybody….getting by with just a little help from my friends!
